Accessibility

We aim to provide an excellent service to all visitors and continually strive to improve. Our mission is to provide a quality experience to all; we are committed to providing accessibility for all our visitors.

At our Anglian Water Birdwatching Centre, Egleton we currently offer:

  • Step free access to visitor centre
  • Tactile door signs with braille
  • Accessible unisex toilet with alarm pull cord
  • Induction loops in our education centre and on audio exhibits in the visitor centre
  • Assistance dogs welcome (on a lead)
  • Blue badge car parking adjacent to the visitor centre for 3 vehicles
  • Large viewing windows with views of Lagoon 1
  • A mobility scooter is available to hire for access to the nature reserve*
  • The car park toilet block has one step up into separate male and female toilets. At present there is no accessible toilet.

At our Lyndon Hill Visitor Centre we currently offer:

  • Step free access to visitor centre
  • Accessible unisex toilet
  • Assistance dogs welcome (on a lead)
  • Car parking adjacent to visitor centre
  • A mobility scooter is available to hire for access to the nature reserve*
  • Large viewing windows with views of feeding station and South Arm.

*Please note that the mobility scooters must be booked in advance at both centres. To book at Egleton please call 01572 770651, to book at Lyndon please call 01572 737378.

Hides

Hides accessible by wheelchair are marked on the visitor map. Footpaths vary in condition depending on the weather. At Egleton, the path is stone surfaced from Tern Hide to Shoveler Hide. At Lyndon, wheelchair users are advised to use the service track to access Waderscrape and Shallow Water Hides. Please ask at reception for advice.

The following hides have step free access, lowered windows and wheelchair spaces and can be accessed in most weather conditions:

  • Mallard (330m > AWBC)
  • Woodpecker (40m > AWBC)
  • Tree Sparrow (10m > AWBC)
  • Redshank (470m > AWBC)
  • Osprey (740m > AWBC)
  • Shoveler (1.1km > AWBC)
  • Lagoon 4 hides (soon to be named) (1000m > AWBC)
  • Waderscrape (1.2km > Lyndon)
  • Shallow Water (1.6km > Lyndon)

The following hides have step free access, lowered windows and wheelchair space but access can be limited depending on weather and current ground conditions. Some paths are rough stone surface and others are grassed. There may be uneven ground and steep inclines, particularly around Lax Hill. Please check at reception for up to date advice:
