Things to do

Rutland Water Nature Reserve offers a multitude of activities for wildlife enthusiasts of all ages throughout the year. From nature detectives to family drop-in days there is plenty to keep the kids happy during the holidays and provide opportunities to learn about wildlife and the natural world in a safe, fun and practical way.

Grown-ups looking to gain some practical heritage skills can join one of our interesting countryside courses, such as hedge-laying, dry-stone walling or charcoal burning to name a few. Or try your hand at a range of art and crafts, including photography, painting or willow weaving. We offer the chance to improve identification skills and experience nature close-up on one of our wildlife workshops, bird ringing demonstrations, dawn chorus walks and evening badger watches.

Get the whole family together and join the Rutland Osprey Project team aboard the Rutland Belle on one of our hugely popular Osprey and Wildlife Cruises. Hopefully you’ll see fishing ospreys – magnificent fish eating hawks – as well as spectacular views of Rutland Water.

There’s something for the whole family!

Please visit our events calendar page for details of when and where the activities take place. You can of course visit the reserve any time you like during opening hours to explore, watch the wildlife, learn about the countryside and chat to our expert staff.
