Bird watching record

On Saturday, 25th April 2009, Matthew Berriman carried out a day-long birdwatch entirely from within the reservoir boundaries and saw 109 species, beating his own previous record set up in September 2001 by 8.

This record has now stood for nearly eight years so it is high time it was beaten! Please send an email to giving your species list (together with locations) if you manage to exceed the current record. On 6-7 October 2001, a record 116 species of birds were recorded at Rutland Water.
However, many individuals were involved in compiling that list.

Key to locations:

BFP = Burley Fishponds; BW = Barnsdale Wood; D = Dam; L1 = Lagoon I; L3 = Lagoon 3; NA= North Arm; SA = South Arm; MB = Manton Bay; O = Flying Over.

Go to the Bird Gallery to identify the birds you have seen.
