There were some interesting recaptures of birds over a year old which have been tabulated below.  The Blue Tits and Great Tits being especially interesting because they were ringed in nest boxes on the Lyndon side of the reserve and we know more of an exact age for these birds.  Catching them again in netting sessions tells us that they successfully fledged from the box and have survived at least 12 months.

Ringing Totals New Birds and Retraps 2015

A large number of goldcrests were caught, the highest number since 2010 and in the years in between numbers have been in single figures.

Nest Boxes

The nest boxes were showing their age and a good number ready to be replaced in 2016 hence some were fairly damp inside.  The only nest box site checked was Field 9 and the occupancy was approximately 30% on our initial visit but due to weather and other commitments only chicks in one nest box of Blue Tit chick were ringed.
