2015 Report: Cormorant Colour Ringing

In 2015 just one excursion was made by boat to the cormorant colony to undertake metal and colour ringing of chicks in accessible nests.

A total of 6 broods were ringed which consisted of:

1st brood – 3 chicks

2nd brood – 2 chicks

3rd brood – 3 chicks

4th brood – 2 chicks

5th brood – 4 chicks

6th brood – 2 chicks

Overall 16 birds were colour ringed on the left leg with a metal ring being fitted on the right leg. The colour rings fitted are yellow with a 3 alpha-numeric black coding.

Of the 16 birds colour ringed in 2015, 2 of these have been re-sighted away from the colony. The histories of these birds can be seen on the following page.
