Friday 19th April

First Grasshopper Warblers singing this morning, Lagoon 3, also Cetti’s Warbler; male Whinchat and fly-over Tree Pipit, Sailing Club Bay; Cuckoo, Lagoon 2; 60+ White Wagtails around the reservoir; Spotted Redshank and Grey Plover, Lagoon 4.

Thursday 18th April

1st summer Ring-billed Gull, 2 adult Mediterranean Gulls, Grey Plover, 12 Ringed Plovers, 16 Dunlin, 4 Avocets, 2 Common Terns, 2 Greenland Wheatears, 40+ White Wagtails, Blue-headed Wagtail and 30+ Yellow Wagtails, Lagoon 4.

Tuesday 16th April

40 White Wagtails and 65 Yellow Wagtails around the reserve; 10 Arctic Terns at the dam; total of 9 Wheatears including 6 near Berrybutts Spinney; 2 adult Mediterranean Gulls and 2 Common Sandpipers, Lagoon 4; female Scaup, Burley Fishponds; Common Sandpiper, Goldeneye hide.

Monday 15th April

Sedge Warbler, Lagoon 3; 250 Sand Martins, 8 White Wagtails, 4 Yellow Wagtails, 8 Dunlin and 4 Ringed Plovers, Lagoon 4; Redstart near Dunlin hide.

Sunday 14th April

Sandwich Tern, 4 Yellow Wagtails, 8 White Wagtails, Greenshank, 12 Dunlin, Common Sandpiper, Lagoon 4; Hobby and Great Northern Diver, North Arm, Sedge Warbler, Lagoon 3; Brent Goose at the dam; 2 Bar-tailed Godwits, Lagoon 1.

House Martins, Sand Martins and Swallows feeding around Osprey nest in Manton Bay; 3 Little-ringed Plover and 6 Ringed Plovers, Lagoon 4.

Friday 12th April

140+ Sand Martins and 25 Swallows around the reserve; 10 Dunlin, female Smew, 6 Ringed Plovers and 5 Redshanks, Lagoon 4; 3 Golden Plovers flew over; several Willow Warblers singing around the reserve; 85 Redwings at the dam; Great Northern Diver off Lyndon centre.

Tuesday 11th December

Cold and gloomy today but it was great news that the drake Ring-necked Duck that was seen earlier in the winter has returned to Burley Fishponds. Also today:  Smew – Lagoon 3, 30 Siskins – Lagoon 2, 1 Ruff – Lagoon 3. No sign of Hawfinch.

Wednesday 5th December

Hawfinch again showing well in the AWBC car park for most of the day; 3 redhead Smew, Bittern and a Ruff, Lagoon 3; Long-tailed Duck and female Common Scoter, North Arm. Adult Glaucous Gull and 7 Caspian Gulls, Lagoon 4; 10 Pink-footed Geese flew over Lagoon 3.

Tuesday 4th December

Hawfinch showing well in the AWBC car park; 3 Goosander (2 male 1 female) on Lagoon 1; male Smew on Fishponds and a pair of Smews on Lagoon 3; Peregrine on lagoon 4 is becoming a regular sight.

Sunday 2nd December

3 Bitterns in Lagoon 3 reedbed this evening – the most of the winter so far; male and redhead Smew again on Lagoon 3 with 2 Cetti’s Warblers caught and ringed nearby; Long-tailed Duck and female Common Scoter, North  Arm; 2 Scaup, Burley Fishponds; no sign of the Hawfinch today.
