Alan Oliver is a professional artist with over forty years experience, working in watercolours, oils, acrylics and pastels. His work is mostly landscape based. He is essentially interested in capturing special light falling on any subject.

Alan has exhibited in most of the London art societies including the Royal Watercolour Society, The Royal Institute of Watercolour Painters, The Royal Oil Institute, The Pastel Society and the Royal Academy.
He is a member of the Leicestershire Society of Artists and is President of the Leicestershire Pastel Society.
Back by popular demand, Alan is putting on a series of Workshops on a Wednesday morning based at the Birwatching Centre at Egleton. There will be one workshop a month from 10am to 1pm and the cost will be £30 per day. Details of painting Workshops with Alan Oliver
Workshop 1.
1st Feb 2012.
‘Watercolours – Basic techniques and methods’.
We will be looking at the basic set of tools and working through a few different methods of using this delightful medium, including the ‘Layering’ and ‘Direct’ methods. We will of course complete a finished painting.
Workshop 2.
7th March.
‘Watercolours – Painting Landscapes’
In this workshop we will be considering composition of a typical landscape subject. Colours will be discussed and advised. We will be using mainly the layering method working from the lightest tones to the darkest.
Workshop 3.
4th April
‘Watercolours – Painting Woodland Scenes’.
During this workshop we will be using various techniques to achieve effects of dapple light through trees.
Workshop 4.
2nd May.
‘Watercolours – Ink and Wash techniques’.
This workshop will involve working with inks and pens. Instruction will be given on how to draw with ink and a brush and how to apply watercolour washes over the drawing.
Workshop 5.
13th June.
‘Watercolours – Paintings Flowers in a loose style’.
On this day we will be working from Still Life flowers but paintings them with a large brush to achieve an interesting impressionist style.
Workshop 6.
5th September.
Oils – ‘Painting in a loose impressionistic style’.
We will be looking at a basic set of tools for oil painting, priming various surfaces. considering colours and mixing. We will then all work through a simple painting.
Workshop 7.
3rd October.
Oils – ‘Painting a Still Life subject.’
I will show you how simple it is to paint a simple still life without involving complicated drawing.
Workshop 8.
7th November.
Oils – ‘Painting a Beach Scene’.
This will involve how to paint a large interesting sky, simple convincing figures the sea and a beach.
