  Phalaropes

A female Red-necked Phalarope in full summer plumage stayed until 18th June 2001. Rob Fray took these pictures of a female Red-necked Phalarope during his visit. He said:

The phalarope was not very co-operative, as it insisted on swimming around near Harrier Hide, but not in view from Harrier Hide. The pictures were taken from the Birdwatching Centre using a Sony PC4 digital camcorder on 10x through a Kowa TS612 scope on 20x.

In September 2003 two  Red-necked Phalaropes were on Lagoon I for a period of 9 days.

This Grey Phalarope was much more co-operative during its stay in early February 2002. The species is well known for its tameness and this one provided very close views from the Anglian Water Birdwatching Centre.

This was only the seventh record of Grey Phalarope at Rutland Water, with all but one of the previous ones occurring in the autumn.
