Oystercatcher Haematopus ostralegus
Oystercatchers normally arrive at Rutland Water in late February or early March and numbers build up during the spring, though there is often only a single breeding pair. Unlike most waders, Oystercatchers take food to their chicks until the young have learned the specialist feeding techniques used by this species.
