Avocet

 

Avocet are rare at Rutland Water but are becoming less so, having been seen in 7 of the last 10 years.
Four were seen together in June 2001.

This one was seen by Matthew Berriman on Lagoon III on 23 March 2002. He saw it fly out sometimes into the middle of the lagoon and swim with the ducks!
